Also on August 15, 1980, Mr. Pacey and ~4r. Brisley in
Mr. Woelfel's presence provided monitoring within each home
that abuts the west property boundary of the landfill. No de~
tectable limits of combustible gas were found in any home
during that survey. It should be noted here that Mr. Woel£el .' ..
and ~wLr. O~ter-indepehdentty had taken tests on the evening o£
August lk, 1980 in the Hatch and the Van ~'lagner residences.
.No detectable .limits were £ound at that time.
.'~.:.~.:.:.:,]-~ Gas monitoring probe location speci£ications were de-
scribed to Mr. Woel£el by B~r. Pacey for critical evaluation
"o£:'the system's per£o.rmance in preventing combustible gases
".'£rom escapi.ng .through the soils on the ~est property boundary.,
Locations along the proper~ay boundary between the extraction.
wells were selected on the basis that the vacuum within the
soils at those locations will be the weakest and there£ore will
provide monitoring at locations least af£ected by the system.
~' On August 21, 1980, bore holes were drilled at the appro-
priate locations in preparation for .gas probe installation.
· Mr. Art Dunn of the County of Anoka Community Health and Social
Services Department was present and witnessed several of the
bore holes drilled. The holes were drilled to a depth of ten
feet with a four inch diameter continuous flight auger (portable
powered unit). Later on the same day, site personnel under the
presence and direction of ~,~r. k~oelfel constructed and installed
sixteen gas .probes per the installation details provided by.
Emcon Associates. Eleven of the sixteen probes provide total
coverage of the west property boundary. One probe was installed
approximately forty-five feet west of the west property boun-
dary on Waste Management of Minnesota's adjacent property
(within the backyard of the site manager's home).
On Friday, August 22, 1980, site personnel installed eight
additional probes at background locations ahead of the venting
system and between the property boundaz~y and edge of refuse
fill. These probes were installed similarly to those placed
along the west fence line.
Details of the probe construction and installation will
be presented at the September 15, ·1980 meeting. .
On August 25, 1980, t,'ir. Art Dunn performed an initial
round of monitoring of the newly installed probes. I·~r. ",'~oelfel
provided ¥Taste I~.~&nagement of Minnesota's first set of monitoring
on Tuesday, August 26, 1980. His testing indicated ~ com-
bustible gas in all west property boundary probes with the ex-
ception of probe #7 which gave a reading of 1.O~ combustible'
gas. .This probe is located approximately 150 feet south of the
motOr/blower shed. Cross checks between Ifir. Dunn's and ~r.
~loelfel's data indicate comparable results.
Mr. Woelfel again performed a complete round of testing
on August 28, 1980 at ~..~hich time all v~est property boundary
probes including #7 indicated O~ combustible gas.
