Ms. Janna Hatch, 150~1 Garnet St. N.W., West Side or.the Landfill

Ms. Hatch said she had a meeting of residents f~om the Landfill area at her
house to discuss and document their concerns in this matter. She read the
list of questions and concerns the residents had:

If some problem of this sort arises again, who can the citizens contact who
would be knowledgeable in this area of concern and would know what the
hazardous signs were and could give them the information needed? She
explained that two weeks went by before the residents found anything out
about the recent problem and, they feared, in the meantime one of their
houses could have exploded.

Will the residents ever be able to Plant anything without the risk of
gas poisoning on their properties?

3. How far can methane travel and how fast?

4. Last winter, methane was slightly detected in Arvin Hansmann's home.
Why didn't they go back and retest?

5. What exactly does the smell in the ground come from because they were told
that methane is odorless?

6. What is the effect of methane on gardens and does methane come out of the
roots of the trees?

7. Would the methane level have been greater before the pump was turned on
and ran for five days?

8. Wl~y didn't the test cover a larger area and show how far' the methane traveled?

9. Why was the 'source of the death of the trees not detected last year?

10. The residents want gas monitors in their homes as soon as possible.

11. Was the area zoned before or after the Landfill was there?

Councilman Cox said that in 1967, the City of Anoka started the Landfill there.
He did not know if the area was zoned residential before or after that time.

Mayor Gamec said whether the residential zoning or Landfill was there first
would be checked out.

12. What plans does the City of Rams~ihave regarding the monitoring of the
Landfill? There is a shortage of manpower, but will the city have more manpower?

Ms. Hatch said these items covered everything discussed at the meeting.

Mayor Gamec said in regards to the whole tree situation in that particular area,
Bruce Bacon did do one study last year and there was no way they could prove
what caused the trees to die. Bruce took pictures and branches from the trees
and sent them into the University of Minnesota .and got the results back, but
there wasn't anything conclusive about what caused the trees to die.
