# i.5 RECEIVE BIDS AND AWARD coNTRACT FOR IMPROVEMENT PROJECT #04-31, CONSTRUCTION OF WATERMAIN ASSOCIATED WITH MUNICIPAL WELL #6 By: Brian E. Olson, Assistant Public Works Director / Principal City Engineer · Background: hnprovement Project #04-31 consists of the construction of 639 feet of watermain to connect municipal Well #6 to Pumphouse #3 and modification of the Pumphouse associated with this well. Authorization to advertise for bids was ordered on August 10, 2004, and bids were opened on Tuesday, September 7, 2004. Two (2) bids were received and ranged from $85,942.50 - $101,285.00. A summary of the bidding is as follows: Bidder W.B. Miller, Inc Dave Perkins Contracting, Inc. Amount ofBid $85,942.50 $101,285.00 Engineers Estimate: .$185,000 As part of the Master Development Agreement for the Ramsey Town Center, Well No.6 is one of the three wells that were necessary to accommodate the additional demand for water supply and the pipe work is necessary to connect to our existing water supply. The original estimate was prepared with a much greater amount of watermain that has since been Constructed as part of the Sunwood Drive project and privately installed public infrastructure by the Developer. Attached is a letter from our Consultant that recommends W.B. Miller, Inc for the contract as they have successfully performed work of a similar nature in the past. Recommendation: It is Staff's recommendation to award the contract to W.B. Miller, Inc in the amount of $85,942.50. Council Action: Motion to approve Resolution #04-09-XXX, aWarding Project #04-31, Construction of Watermain associated with Well #6, to the lowest responsible bidder, W.B. Miller, Inc.
