The estimates in the text and tables that <br />follow are current to January 1,1970. <br /> <br />Residential building activity in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area for 1969 <br />was slightly higher than the previous year, even though the number of residen- <br />tial building permits issued decreased during the last quarter of 1969. New <br />housing starts for 1969 totaled 24,880 units composed of 15,125 multiple'family <br />housing units, 7,991 single-family units, and 1,764 mobile home units. Table <br />1 indicates new starts and net change since 1963. <br /> <br />Table 1. Of these, 2,863 units were in the central cities <br />and 971 were located in the remainder of the seven counties. The net housing <br />gain for the Area was 21,046 units or 1,027 fewer units than were gained in 1968. <br /> <br /> <br />
