Principal Planner Trudgeon suggested a meeting be held between the neighbors, Staff and <br />developer to agree on the type of screening they prefer. <br /> <br />Commission Business <br /> <br />Motion by Commissioner Johnson, seconded by Commissioner Kociscak, to recommend that <br />City Council approve the site plan for Alpine Meadows contingent upon compliance with City <br />Staff review letter dated April 26, 2002, the applicant receiving variances to the front-yard <br />setback, and cul-de-sac length, and subdivision approval. Staff shall confer with applicant for <br />effective screening. <br /> <br />Commissioner Brauer asked if Mr. Kempf is satisfied. <br /> <br />Mr. Kempf replied he didn't want plantings, and would prefer something taller. He said he has <br />discussed this with the developer and will continue to do so. He was comfortable that an <br />agreement could be reached. <br /> <br />Motion Carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Nixt, Commissioners Johnson, Kociscak, and Brauer. <br />Voting No: None. Absent: Commissioners Reeve, Sweet, and Watson. <br /> <br />Case #4: <br /> <br />Request for a Conditional Use Permit to Allow for Outdoor Storage in the <br />BW Business Warehouse District; Case of Tom Sauter <br /> <br />Chairperson Nixt closed the regular portion of the Planning Commission meeting at 8:49 p.m. in <br />order to call the public hearing to order. <br /> <br />Public Hearing <br /> <br />Chairperson Nixt called the public hearing to order at 8:49 p.m. <br /> <br />Presentation <br /> <br />Associate Planner Wald stated Tom Sauter is requesting a conditional use permit to exceed <br />outdoor storage restrictions established in the BW - Business Warehouse District on the property <br />located at 6651 141st Avenue. Tom Sauter constructed a 55,140 square foot multi-tenant <br />building in the year 2001. Tom Sauter operates his excavating business, T&G Land Company, <br />from his multi-tenant building and utilizes a significant amount of the permitted outside storage <br />area on the subject property due to the nature of his business. H&L Mesabi is interested in <br />locating in the City of Ramsey and occupying one of Tom Sauter's remaining vacant units. H&L <br />Mesabi Company is a distributor and servicer for large equipment (i.e. snow plow blades, cutting <br />edges) and therefore will require a significant amount of outside storage area. The subject <br />property is approximately 11 acres in size. She explained the City Code states that in the BW - <br />Business Warehouse District, outdoor storage is restricted to 10% of the site area, in this case, <br /> <br />Planning Commission/May 2, 2002 <br /> Page 7 of 23 <br /> <br /> <br />
