FC CASE # APPROVE ALPINE PARK'S DISCOVERY GARDEN By: Mark Riverblood, Parks/Utilities Supervisor Background: One of the 2003 Parks Capital Improvement Projects proposed was a unique playground area at Alpine Park. The proposed Alpine Park Discovery Garden was approved to move forward by City Council in September of last year. Since the June 10th 2004 joint meeting between City Council and the Park and Recreation Commission this year, the various elements have been further refined and a line item budget estimate has been prepared. The attached spread sheet detail these costs and also serves as an outline for the project's differing elements. Initially, the City's Parks Capital Improvement Program estimated a construction cost of $80,000. During the platting of Alpine Woods, the Park and Recreation Commission recommended that City Council allocate a portion of the plat's cash Park Dedication to the project, based upon the revised project estimates. This also recognizes that the primary recreational destination for these new residents will be Alpine Park. A brief project overview will be presented at the meeting. Observations: At this time, the Park and Recreation Commission and staff are recommending City Council authorize the completion of the project. Funding: The funding is proposed to come from several sources, and is as follows: Ramsey Rotary - Perennial flowers (est. ~ $1,000), Rotary Centennial bench (est. ~ up to $2,000) and the coins for the ¼ mile recycling trail game (est. ~ $1,025). SCORE monies -recycled aggregate base and recycled bituminous (est. ~ $6500).
