Today, at 10:40 am, the City of Ramsey became the new owner of the former Sunfish Lake Gas Station, located at 6401 Highway 10. The City purchased this vacant building for $645,000. Funding for the purchase comes from the MNDOT Funded, and Metropolitan Council administered, RALF Program. The City was awarded a $905,500 RALF loan. The extra dollars will be used to reimburse site investigation costs and the demolition/site cleanup. Staff intends to bring a case forward soon to the City Council—to discuss next steps. Mayors for Monarchs Pledge Signing & Monarch Trail Designation. On Tuesday, June 6, 2017, Mayor Sarah Strommen signed the Mayors for Monarchs Pledge to support Monarch butterflies in our community by implementing efforts to protect pollinator habitat and encouraging our citizens to do the same in their own backyards. The pledge signing event also included the designation of a new "Monarch Trail" along the Lake Itasca Trail corridor in Ramsey. With the guidance of representatives from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service, students from Youth First enjoyed planting a small section of native plant plus along the trail at this event. This plug planting was representative of the larger-scale pollinator habitat restoration that will come this fall. Fourth grade students from Ramsey Elementary also contributed to the event by creating 150 colorful
