The subject property is
approximately 60 acres in size and is located outside the Metropolitan Urban Service Area
(MUSA). According to City Code, the property is eligible for 5,664 square feet of accessory
building space. The applicant has a hobby fan~n on the subject property and needs additional
storage space. He is proposing to construct a pole building on the subject property that is 5,500
square feet (50' x 110') in size. The proposed pole building would be utilized for a~icultural
purposes to accommodate the storage of machinery, hay and ~ain.

Assistant Community Development Director Trudgeon explained the applicant's request would
result in an overage of 5,546 square feet. The City has approved similar requests in the past for
agricultural related activities. Several Conditional Use Permits to exceed the allotted square
fbotage fbr accessory structures related to a~-icultural uses have been approved with the overages
ranging from 2,140 square feet to 26,395 square feet. The Planning Commission reco~rnnended
that City Council approve the request for a Conditional Use Permit.

Councilmember Cook questioned why this is not considered agricultural if it will be used fbr the
storage of aghcultural equipment.

Assistant Community Development Director Trudgeon replied it is regulated as an accessory
building.

Motion by Councilmember Elvig, seconded by Councilmember Cook, to adopt Resolution #04-
09-272 to adopt Findings of Fact #0698 relating to Eric Thomsen's request fora Conditional Use
Permit to exceed the allotted square fbotage fbr accessory buildings.

Motion came& Voting Yes: Mayor Gmnec, Councilmembers Elvig, Cook, Kurak, Pearson,
Strommen, and Zimmennan.
