4. High Density Polyethylene valve housings will not be allowed on this project. <br />D. Gate Valves <br />1. Valve twelve inches (12") in size and smaller shall be resilient wedge valves by Kennedy, Clow, Mueller <br />or approved equal. Valves shall conform to AWWA C509-80 standards and shall be installed on line <br />with accompanying valve boxes. All valves shall be of mechanical ends with underground operator. <br />The operator shall close the valve in a clockwise direction. <br />E. Valve Markers <br />1. All valves not located in the streets shall be marked with a 5' tall Blue Carsonite marker as approved by <br />the City. <br />2.5 RESTRAINED JOINT RETAINER GLANDS <br />A. Where stainless steel is not used restrained joint retainer glands shall be coated with a 6-8 mil nominal <br />thickness fusion bonded epoxy conforming to the requirements of ANSI/AWWA C550 and C116/A21.16 or <br />approved equal. <br />2.6 POLYETHYLENE ENCASEMENT <br />A. The Contractor shall furnish and install polyethylene encasement for the entire main and all appurtenances <br />in accordance with the referenced specification. <br />PART 3 -- EXECUTION <br />3.1 CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS <br />A. Temporary Service <br />1. Before proceeding with the project, the Contractor shall establish a work plan and submit the plan to <br />the utility personnel and Engineer for review and comment. The plan shall outline the method to be <br />used to maintain service to the affected consumers and estimate the duration of any anticipated <br />interruptions of service. The plan shall include provisions to fully disinfect all temporary piping, valves <br />and fittings in accordance with CEAM Specification No. 2611. The Contractor is the sole party <br />responsible to notify the Utility and consumers who may be affected by limitations and/or interruption <br />of water service. Planned service interruptions shall not exceed six (6) hours in any 72 hour period <br />unless previously approved by the Utility. <br />2. The Contractor shall coordinate watermain shut -downs with the water utility at least 24 hours prior to <br />the requested shut -down. <br />3. If the Contractor fails to provide water service to affected residents within the constraints specified <br />above, an amount equal to $ 500.00 may be deducted from the amount due the Contractor for each <br />occurrence. <br />3.2 INSTALLATION OF PIPE AND FITTINGS <br />A. Aligning and Fitting of Pipes <br />1. The Contractor, together with the utility's personnel, shall jointly examine and operate all curb stops <br />and mainline valves prior to final acceptance. <br />2. Anchoring of Pipe <br />(a) A thrust block of cast -in -place concrete, which covers the installed fitting, is not permitted. <br />Restrained joint retainer glands shall be provided at all bends, tees, hydrants, valves and plugged <br />crosses or wherever the watermain changes direction or dead ends <br />B.
