Inc. for <br />2004 Pavement Maintenance Program — Division A. <br />12) Adopt Resolution #04-10-311 Approving I" Partial Payment to Bauerly Bros. Inc. for <br />2004 Pavement Maintenance Program — Division B <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Strommen, Elvig, Cook, Kurak, <br />Pearson, and Zimmerman. Voting No: None. <br />COUNCIL BUSINESS <br />Case #1: Report from Personnel Committee <br />l) Authorization to Hire a Patrol Officer <br />Human Resources Manager Reed explained that on September 28, 2004, staff received <br />authorization to begin the recruitment process for a patrol officer. Staff has since completed an <br />internal recruitment process that included four eligible applicants. All four applicants were <br />interviewed and staff is recommending hiring Nicholas Dahlberg for the Patrol Officer position. <br />Staff recommends that Nicholas Dahlberg be hired to fill the new Patrol Officer position at an <br />hourly rate of $18.50. The Personnel Committee recommended approval of this request. <br />Counci (member Zimmerman inquired if there will be 19 full time patrol officers with this hiring. <br />Police Chief Way responded in the affirmative. <br />Councilmember Elvig asked if there will be more night patrols added with the additional officers. <br />Police Chief Way replied the schedule he is working on will have 15 officers on patrol duties. <br />On paper it will allow three officers on the day shift, four on the second shift, and three on the <br />night shift. <br />Motion by Councilmember Pearson, seconded by Councilmember Cook, to ratify the <br />recommcndation of the Personnel Committee and adopt Resolution #04-10-312 authorizing the <br />hire of a patrol officer. <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Pearson, Cook, Elvig, Kurak, <br />Strommcn, and Zimmerman. Voting No: None. <br />2) Consider (2) Additional Paid On Call Lieutenants Positions <br />Human Resources Manager Reed explained this case is a proposal to promote two paid on call <br />firefighters to the rank of Lieutenant. The primary job function of these additional positions will <br />be to assist with new firefighter development. Effective date would be following an internal <br />City Council/October 12, 2004 <br />Page 6 of 30 <br />
