position placcinent process. She explained the Fire Department currently has a staff of seven <br />paid on call officers, with each having individual responsibilities. When the department reached <br />its goal of 40 firefighters it became obvious that a need for a more structured mentoring process <br />was needed. These two firefighters will each function out of one of the two fire stations and will <br />be required to give progress reports on a monthly basis. This topic was brought to the Public <br />Safety Board earlier this year and given unanimous approval. These positions would receive a <br />quarterly amount of $2,520 or a combined amount of $5,040, which would be taken from normal <br />payroll bu(Iget. The Personnel Committee recommended approval of the hiring. <br />Mayor Gamec asked if this was included in the upcoming budget. <br />Public Worl(s Director Kapler replied staff feels the salary budget will be able to absorb this <br />hiring. <br />Motion by Councilmember Pearson, seconded by Councilmember Elvig, to ratify the <br />recommendation of the Personnel Committee and accept Fire Chief s recommendation of <br />Additional Paid on Call Lieutenants positions. <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Councilmembers Pearson, Elvig, Cook, Kurak, <br />Strommen, and Zimmennan. Voting No: None. <br />3) Update on Official Map Board of Appeals Recruitment Process <br />Human Resources Manager Reed indicated the City Council established an Official Map Board <br />of Appeals this past spring to assist with the appeals that may arise out of the purchase of <br />properties within the area of Highway 10 that has been officially mapped. Staff proceeded with a <br />recruitment process for this newly established Board but has received only three applications. <br />Several individuals have inquired about this opportunity, but no additional applications have <br />been received. Staff is requesting that Council Members consider recommending residents who <br />may be interested in serving on the Official Map Board of Appeals. Four businesses owners or <br />residents are needed to serve on the Board. <br />Counci Imember Elvig requested an explanation of the Board or Appeals for the citizens. <br />Human Resources Manager Reed explained the Official Map Board of Appeals will hear appeals <br />on land use applications. The Board would meet on an as needed basis. <br />No action necessary on this item. <br />Case #2: Report from Public Works Committee <br />1) Consider Juniper Ridge Drive/151" Avenue Storm Water Modifications <br />Councilmernbcr Zimmerman indicated this case is consideration of improvements to the storm <br />water area at l 51" Avenue and Juniper Ridge Drive.
