Ms.

Page

[lac: process of' obtah~ing a written statement, but have been in contact with experts in the ~rucldng
mdust.rv who have told us that a U:tum at Sunfish would not be a safe maneuver. Pro Sporting Goods
estimates that ti-my have 150 trucks thai would have to make thSs maneuver annually'. Anchors
has a~ csnn~ated '1,200-1,400 RV's (many towing vet~cles), that utilize theLr oversize car wash
Currently, these vehicles utilize the Feldspar crossing. Closing it would si§ni~Scantly reduce business
and cause unsafe U-turns at Sunfish Lake Boulewrd.

Ar the meem~g, Beth Neuendorf indicated that it was safer for Pro Sporting Goods' customers to
merge onto High~vay 10, slow down, perform ~ U-mm on crossing RP 22'1.842, and accelerate back
towards Anoka than to cross at Feldspar. This claim assumes a merge maneuver is s~fer than a freeway
crossing maneuver. Ho~veve~, we believe you failed to consider that a customer exiting the business
:md herding north would have to merge into traffic,, then cross lanes, and dece!erate, cross the freeway
and merge onto Highway 10 heading south towards Anoh. It is inconceivable that two merges and ~
sbw<lown ~vould be s~fer than one crossing. In fact, the traffic accident statistics currently reflect no
serious injuries over the test period in the DOT report at Feldspar. This is significantly better than
many of the other crossings, including ~11 of the controlled intersections that you h~ve on the map (see
lixhibit One).

In short, by elhninatmg the crossing at Feldspar, we believe the city/state is moving ~ow~rd condemnation of
the property. If that is the case, steps should be taken to compensate the business o~vners that ~re located
there.

In addition, public data being utilized to evaluate these closings does not accurately reflect the safetT of these
crossings. We wanted to issue this letter as quic -kly as possible as we continue to review fi:ds matter with legal
COUl-~sel.

--' ' ....... lames, R..
