By:

NAMING OF MUNICIPAL PARK LOCATED IN
SORTEBERG'S 6TH ADDITION
Mark S. Banwart, Community Development Director

Case #5

Background/Observations:

As you may recall, since October 1989, the Ramsey Park and Recreation Commission has been
reviewing the issue of naming Ramsey Municipal Parks. On May 10, 1990, the Ramsey Park and
Recreation Commission recommended to the Ramsey City Council adoption of an Official Ramsey
Park and Trail Map including park names. On May 22, 1990, the Ramsey City Council adopted
the Official Ramsey Park and Trail Map including park names.

On March 15, 1990 and again on April 1 I, 1990, the Ramsey Park and Recreation Commission
discussed the specific naming of the municipal park to be located in Sorteberg's 6th Addition. At
the April 11, 1990 meeting, City staff was directed to place an article in the Ramsey Resident
newsletter soliciting possible names for municipal parks. Staff placed such an article in the April
1990 Ramsey Resident Newsletter requesting such solicitation. In addition, during the April 28,
1990 Arbor Day Events, the notion of naming a municipal park was also promoted. Since this
time, the City has provided for public input a receiving box as well as application forms and
soliciting municipal park names.

For your information, the following items are offered:

A) List of possible municipal park names (as of May 29, 1990)

Park and Recreation Commission Action:

Based on discussion.

Review Checklist:

City Administrator
City Attorney
City Landscape Architect
Community Development Director

Chief of Police
Finance Officer
X Planning & Zoning Commission
X Park & Recreation Commission 'X
