Rev;jew ~vhether or not considering advertising signs (billboards) as a principal use of
prop,~rty~ in addition to the 1200 foot setback from other advertising signs, is overkill on
our!0ten~t to restrict billboards. (Refer to Section 9.12.08, Subd. 3, items b and f.)

Discussi0n: Is the intent to set reasonable distance limits between billboards or is the intent
to r¢$tri~ billboards as much as possible? At one time, the City Council's intent was to
restr, ict b~llboards as much as possible. If that is still the case, then distance and principal
use criteria are not overkill.

Below is a listing of issues yet to be accomplished or resolved as a result of the January 7 meeting
and subsequent research:

1. Nofity o%~ers of billboards on Hwy. #10 that the City is considering amending its sign
ordinance.

2. Check to!see if the sign at JAC Auto on Hwy. #10 would be considered a flashing sign.

3. Based onlrecent communications with other communities, I think we should address flags
in our ordinance also.

4. We must .look at limiting the number of temporary signs that are allowed on a property at
any given time.

5. Following the public hearing, citizens were given 30 days to submit written comments. At
the date of this writing, I have not received any written comments from the public.

6. In or, der to gain some additional control, I amended the provisions for garage sale signs to
include craft sale signs. Refer to 9.12.05, Subd. 3.

RecommendatiOn:

Commission

Action:

Will be based on your discussion and review of the above information.

Review Checklist:

P&Z: 2/3/93

City Administrator
Zoning Administrator
