I
I
I
I
I

I
I
I
I
I
I
!
I
I
I
I

STATUS OF TRANSPORTATION PLANNING
BY: City Engineer Steven Jankowski

CASE # 5

Subsequent to the discussion of this issue at the February 16, 1993 Planning and Zoning
Commission imeeting, I met with the Finance Committee on February 23 and presented the
Commission'S request for a public hearing on the element of the plan which anticipates the
reroutmg of ,Trunk H~ghway #47 down Ramsey Boulevard to the future Mzss~ss ppz R~ver
crossing. ThC Finance Committee is a committee of the whole Council. I presented information
similar to that which was presented to the Planning and Zoning Commission on February 16,
which includ4~d the need for a comprehensive revision of the entire transportation and land use
elements of the plan. As a result of their discussion, the Committee made a recommendation to
proceed with~the revision of both the City's Comprehensive Land Use and Transportation Plan
elements. Finding for revising the land use element is expected to come from the City's annual
CommunityDevelopment Block Grant, while the transportation element is to come from surplus
revenues from the City's 1992 fiscal year.

I did point ot~t to the Committee that the Planning and Zoning Commission felt strongly about
quickly amen~iing this single element of the plan immediately under the premise that the longer this
element rem.ains, the more permanency becomes attached to it. It was the opinion of the
Committee that this issue along with the others would receive more thorough consideration if
addressed as ia part of the comprehensive review, and that dealing with it separately would be
needlessly redundant.

Review Checklist:

P&Z: 3/2/93

City Engineer
Zoning Administrator

21
