City Administrator Norman replied that the posting area has lost its effectiveness over the years
and it was staff's opinion that bringing additional light into the office made more sense. A new
area could be created for the postings of information.

Councilmember Zimmerman inquired if the remodeling would have any impact on the
circulation of air and ventilation.

Ms. Boddinger explained that the circulation and ventilation will stay exactly the same.

Councihnember Kurak stated that she would like to see a bid for new carpeting if they are going
to be doing some upgrades. She also suggested that all of the walls in the office area receive a
fresh coat of paint.

Councilmember Hendriksen inquired if it was a fact that they would not be adding any additional
space only reconfiguring existing space.

Ms. Boddinger replied yes.

Councilmember Hendriksen presented an option for adding additional space at City Hall, which
involved converting the majority of the main entrance into office space.

Bill Baxley, Architect, stated that they did consider the option presented by Councilmember
Hendriksen, but there were issues of providing proper work area for employees, which involved
proper airflow, acoustics, etc.

Councihnember Hendriksen stated that he felt passionately that what he presented would provide
more working space at a minimal cost.

Ms. Boddinger stated that one issue with moving the work area out to the front would be that the
upper area would not be secured because of the open staircase from the basement.

Councihnember Hendriksen replied that that issue could be resolved by walling the staircase off.

City Administrator Norman stated that at a previous Council meeting, the Council came to a
consensus that they wanted a short term fix-up rather than a major renovation.

Councihnember Hendriksen stated that if what he has proposed can't be explained as a bad
solution then he felt it should be considered further.

City Administrator Norman replied that that option was discussed in detail at the previous work
session, but unfortunately Councilmember Hendriksen was unable to attend and that information
was not available for this meeting.

City Council/January 15, 2002
