"BUILDING SEWER" That part of the drainage system which extends from the end of <br />the building drain and conveys its discharge to an individual sewage treatment <br />system or to a public sanitary sewage collection system. <br /> <br />"CAPACITY" The liquid volume of a sewage tank using inside dimensions below the <br />ou~ <br /> <br />"CESSPOOL" An underground pit into which raw household sewage or other untreated <br />liquid waste is discharged and from which the liquid seeps into the surrounding soil. <br /> <br />"COUNCIL" Ramsey City Council. <br /> <br />"DISTRIBUTION PIPES" Perforated pipes or agricultural drain tiles that are used to <br />~stribute sewage tank effluent in a soil treatment system. Perforated pipe used <br />for distribution pipes shall have one or more rows of holes of no more than 1/2 inch <br />in diameter spaced no more than 36 inches apart. Holes shall be spaced to prevent <br />bearing capacity of not less than 800 pounds per linear foot. <br /> <br />"DISTRIBUTION DEVICE" A device which is used to distribute sewage tank effluent <br />to the dis~ri~tior~ pipes, including but not limited to distribution boxes, drop <br />boxes, and valve boxes. <br /> <br />"DOSING DEVICE" (or pump pit or wet well) A tank or separate compartment following <br />~he sewage t~k which serves as a reservoir for the dosing device. <br /> <br />"DRAINFIELD" Also called tile disposal field, soil absorption field. Uses <br />~i~t'ributi~n pipes placed in favorable soil so that sewage from the septic tank <br />can percolate through and into the soil. <br /> <br />"DWELLING" Any building or place used or intended to be used by human occupants <br />as a single family or two family unit. <br /> <br />"FILTER MATERIAL" Clean rock, crushed igneous rock or similar insoluble, durable <br />and decay-resistant material free from dust, sand, silt or clay. The size shall <br />range from 1-1/4 inch minimum diameter to 2-1/2 inches effective diameter. <br /> <br />"HOLDING TANK" A watertight tank for storage cf sewage until it can be transported <br />to a point of approved disposal. <br /> <br />"IMPERMEABLE" Nith regard to soils, a soil horizon or layer having a vertical <br />permea-~l~-~l-i~ less than one inch in 24 hours shall be considered impermeable. <br /> <br />"INDIVIDUAL SEWAGE TREATMENT SYSTEMS" A sewage treatment system, or part thereof, <br />serving a dwelling, or other small living or business unit, or group thereof, which <br />utilizes subsurface soil treatment and disposal. <br /> <br /> <br />
