(a) Table 4-1 is based on a sewage flow of 200 gallons per day per bedroom and
shall be used as the basis for sizing household systems.

(b) In every case sufficient area shall be provided for at least two bedrooms
in dwellings.

(c) For systems other than household systems, the required treatment area shall
be based upon gallons of waste per day. The required treatment area may be reduced
for trenches only, by the following percentages: 20 percent for 12 inches of filter
material below the distribution pipe; 34 percent for 18 inches; and 40 percent for
24 inches. The filter material shall completely encase the disposal pipes to a depth
of at least two inches.

(d) Soil is unsuitable for standard system if percolation rate is less than
1/2 minute per inch. See Section ~.07

(e) Consider sewage treatment units for problem soils with this percolation
range. See Section 4.07.

b. Location.

1. On slopes in excess of 12 percent, the soil profile shall be carefully
evaluated in the location of the proposed soil treatment area and downslope to
identify the presence of layers that may cause sidehill seepage. In no case shall
a trench be located within 15 feet of such a layer surfacing on the downslopeo

2. Bed construction shall be limited to areas having natural slopes of less
than six percent.

3. Any soil treatment area other than seepage pits shall be set back the
following distances from the features given below:

Feature

Set Back Distance in Feet

Water supply well less than 50 feet
deep and not encountering at least
ten feet of impervious material

100'

Any other water supply well or buried
water suction pipe

5O

Buried pipe distributing water under
pressure

lO

Building

2O

Property lines

10

*Required for rmw developments, and where practicable,
for existing developments

14
