Meeting Date: 12/12/2017 By: Colleen Lasher, Administrative Services Information Title Adopt Resolution # 17-12-308 to Hire a Streets Maintenance Worker to Fill a Vacant Position Purpose/Background: The purpose of this case is to request authorization to hire a full-time Streets Maintenance Worker to fill the current vacancy. The City currently has one Streets Maintenance Worker vacancy. The name of the selected candidate will be provided, pending receipt of the final test results which are anticipated just prior to the City Council meeting. If the results of the testing are not satisfactory, the case will be withdrawn until another candidate can be presented for City Council approval to hire. As a result of the vacancy, an internal and external recruitment was conducted to fill the position. Interviews were held and staff has selected a top candidate. The candidate subsequently participated in the the City's pre -employment testing process. The City extended a job offer which is contingent upon passing all of the pre -employment testing and City Council approval. If the candidate is approved for hire, he will be subject to a six-month probationary period, the personnel policy and the AFSCME union contact. Notification: The Street Maintenance Worker position is responsible for constructing and maintaining streets, parking lots and related property; performing snow related activities; performing general maintenance activities; performing general labor; performing vehicle and motorized equipment maintenance; performing and assisting with landscape, grounds care, and forestry/naturalist activities; providing assistance with preparation of community events; performing mechanical building maintenance and repair; as well as a wide range of other tasks as required. Funding Source: The funding required for this position has already been included in the 2018 budget and represents a savings of $8825.00 over the previously anticipated allocation. Recommendation: To hire (name) as a full-time Public Works Streets Maintenance Worker, effective on or near December 13, 2017 at $21.13 per hour which is step 1 of the 2017 wage scale. Action: Motion to adopt resolution #17-12-308 to hire (name) as a full-time Public Works Streets Maintenance Worker, effective on or near December 13, 2017 at $21.13 per hour which is step 1 of the 2017 wage scale.
