PURCHASE OF POLICE VEHICLES <br />By: Mike Auspos, Police Chief <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The successful bidder, through the auspices of Hennepin County Joint <br />Purchasing, for police vehicles this year is Viking Southdale Ford, <br /> <br />Specifications for these units were sent to major dealerships in the <br />Metro Area and bids were solicited for 100 vehicles. Viking Southdale <br />Ford's bid of $13,038 per unit (base price) was accepted over Polar <br />Chevrolet which bid $13,029 per unit (base price). Chevrolet failed <br />to meet two items on the specification sheets and, wish the small price <br />differential indicated, I am sure that the poor maintenance record of <br />the Chevrolet Malibu tipped the choice in favor of Ford. <br /> <br />Recon~nendation: <br /> <br />I recommend that we purchase two 1989 Ford Crown Victorias. The price, <br />after add-ons and deducts from the base, is $13,471 per unit.
