PC CASE <br /> <br />CONSIDER AUTHORIZATION TO HIRE <br /> A PATROL OFFICER <br /> <br />By: Givonna Reed, Human Resources Manager <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />As part of the 2005 preliminary budget, on September 28, 2004 staff received authorization <br />to begin the recruitment process for one patrol officer. An internal recruitment process was <br />conducted and Nicholas Dahlberg was hired from a pool of four applicants. <br /> <br />At the December 14, 2004 City Council meeting staff will request authorization to begin the <br />recruitment process for a second patrol officer as part of the 2005 budget. It is staff's intent <br />to use the eligibility list from the most recent recruitment (mentioned above) to hire this <br />second patrol officer. <br /> <br />Anticipating that authorization to begin recruitment will be granted, at this time staff is <br />requesting authorization to hire a second patrol officer at an hourly wage not to exceed <br />$21.65. The individual selected to fill this position will begin employment on or after <br />January 3, 2005. A resolution ratifying the appointment of the individual selected will be <br />presented at the January 11, 2005 City Council meeting. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation: <br /> <br />Staff is recommending that the Personnel Committee grant authorization to hire patrol officer <br />from the eligibility list created during the most recent patrol officer recruitment. This <br />individual would be hired at an hourly wage not to exceed $21.65 and the individual would <br />begin employment on or after January 3, 2005. The name of the selected candidate will be <br />presented at the Personnel Committee the evening of January 11, 2005. <br /> <br />Committee Action: <br /> <br />Motion recommending that staff be granted authorization to hire a patrol officer at an hourly <br />wage not to exceed $21.65. The selected individual will begin employment on or after <br />January 3, 2005 and the individual's name will be presented to the City Council for <br />ratification at the January 11, 2005 City Council meeting. This appointment will be <br />contingent upon successful completion of criminal and driver's license background checks, <br />reference checks, and passing a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
