Winter Highlights
The winter months are upon us and, although
the days may be shorter and colder, there is no
lack of activity in Ramsey! This winter, be sure to
enjoy the great amenities that the Ramsey com-
munity has to offer. The City maintains several
skating rinks at Central Park, Ramsey Elementary
School, and Bear Park (located north of Alpine
Drive on Roanoke Street). The rinks at Central
Park and Ramsey Elementary School feature
warming house facilities. Regular hours of opera-
tion for these warming houses are listed on page 7
of this newsletter. Visit the City's website at www
cityoframsey.com/parks-and-trails for special
holiday hours and more information about these
facilities. Skaters can also enjoy the unique skating
trail which begins and ends at the Central Park ice
rink.
Grab your sleds and head to Alpine Park to
enjoy Ramsey's sliding hill! Or, strap on your skis
and hit the cross country trails at Rum River Cen-
tral Regional Park, maintained by Anoka County
Parks. (Ski trail pass information is available at
www.anokacounty.us/372/parks-recreation.) For
a map of these park locations, visit the City's Park
and Trail website.
City of Ramsey snow plow crews also main-
tain the sidewalks and walking paths around the
City so that you can continue to enjoy the many
miles of trails throughout the winter months.
More information about the City's winter
street maintenance is provided in this issue (see
pages 10 - 11). During a snow fall, you can call the
Snowplow Information line at 763-433-9852 for
expected plow times and status updates. See pages
10 - 11 of this newsletter for tips on what you can
do to help keep Ramsey's streets safe for everyone.
The Northstar Train is a great option for safe,
fun and convenient commuting during winter
weather. Park your vehicle in the covered Munici-
pal Parking Ramp, located adjacent to the Ramsey
City Hall, and ride the Northstar from the Ram-
sey Station all the way to Target Field in down-
town Minneapolis.
The City of Ramsey encourages residents to
take advantage of all of these amenities for a safe
and happy winter season!
Anoka Conservation
District Tree Sale
The Anoka Conservation District
(ACD) is accepting orders for the 2018
Tree and Shrub sale. The ACD is offer-
ing 25+ varieties of economically priced
seedlings and transplants, sold in bundles of 10 and 25 for just
a little over $1 + per tree. They are now taking pre -orders until
April 19, or until sold out, with any remaining stock sold at
the tree and shrub pick up on April 28, at the Anoka County
Fairgrounds between 9:00-11:00 am. You do not need to be an
Anoka County Resident to order!
To assist you in making your selection, the Anoka SWCD
website, www anokaswcd.org, features each species with de-
tailed descriptions and images of each of the varieties being of-
fered. The website also contains information about the kinds of
trees and shrubs to plant in your particular situation along with
planting directions. If you would prefer one-on-one assistance
in making your selections, call the Anoka Conservation Dis-
trict staffat 763-434-2030 as they would be happy to provide
guidance.
Wilk A
ONSERVAIKIN
VISTRICT
AFTER HOURS
EMERGENCIES
Anoka County Dispatch
763-427-1212
Keep Jack Frost Out
of Septic Systems
Just as frost can cause problems with underground pipes in
cities, it can also impact pipes and other parts of septic systems
that are used to treat and disperse sewage. Cold temperatures
combined with lack of snow in some areas may spell problems
for some Minnesota residents who rely on subsurface sewage
treatment systems or septic systems.
With cold temperatures spreading across much of Minne-
sota, there are several things homeowners can do to prevent
their septic system from freezing.
For the full article, visit wwwcityoframsey.com/septic or
contact the Building Inspection Division at 763-433-9850.
Ramsey Resident • January/February 2018
