As part of this work MnDOT would like to remove several of the more
problematic median openings. MnDOT recommended six medians for closure. There were
numerous discussions with citizens, including an open house and the Public Works meeting.
The four medians recommended for closure by staff are Tungsten Street, Llama Street, Midway
between Traprock Street and Armstrong Boulevard, and. the crossing west of Beatty Street.

Assistant Public Works Director Otson stated there was extensive discussion on the Feldspar
median opening. This intersection carries a lot of Recreational Vehicles' (RV) traffic and the
property owners that would be affected stated that there would be significant hardship and
safety concerns with the closure of that median. Staff was directed to continue to work with
MnDOT and the property owners between Ramsey Boulevard and Sunfish Lake Boulevard to
find an acceptable ~olution.

Motion by Mayor Pro Tem Zimmerman, seconded by Councilmember Cook, to ratify the
recommendation of the Public Works Committee in Case No. 2 and direct staff to send a letter
of support for the closure of the following medians on Highway 10 and to Continue to work
with MnDOT and property owners between Ramsey Boulevard and Sunfish Lake Boulevard
and that the Councilmembers go out and review these particular intersections, especially Llama
Street and Tungsten Street.
· Tungsten Street
Llama Street
Midway between Traprock Street and Armstrong Boulevard
The crossing west of Beatty Street

P38

City Council/December 14, 2004
