CC Regular Session 4. 9.
Meeting Date: 06/12/2018
By: Bruce Westby, Engineering/Public
Works
Information
Title
Adopt Resolution #18-113 Approving Change Order #1 for 2018 Street Overlay Improvements, Improvement
Project #18-03
Purpose/Background:
Purpose:
The purpose of this case is to adopt Resolution #18-113 approving Change Order #1 for 2018 Street Overlay
Improvements, Improvement Project #18-03.
Background:
On May 8, 2018, the City Council awarded a contract for construction for Improvement Project #18-03 to North
Valley, Inc. This project involves bituminous pavement overlay improvements on approximately 3.5 miles of street
segments in the following residential developments;
• Northfork
• Northfork Oaks
• Northfork 2nd Addition
• Northfork 3rd Addition
• Northfork Itasca Shores
• The North Forty 2nd Addition
• The North Forty 3rd Addition
• Woodland Green
North Valley recently started work on this project in the Northfork development. In order for overlay improvements
to be completed, the surface of the existing bituminous pavement must first be patched and swept to provide a
clean, uniform surface for the new pavement.
Typically, Public Works Staff patch the surface of streets in advance of work beginning on overlay and sealcoat
projects. The Contractor then sweeps the streets. However, given the abrupt and late emergence of spring this year,
Public Works Staff are still sweeping streets and working on other early spring related tasks and are therefore not
able to complete the required surface patching work ahead of the Contractor's operations.
Staff therefore asked North Valley for a quote to perform the surface patching work. North Valley submitted a
quote of $2,000 to surface patch all 3.5 miles of streets that will receive overlay improvements in 2018.
Notification:
No notifications are required.
Observations/Alternatives:
