CC Regular Session 4. 13.
Meeting Date: 06/12/2018
By: Colleen Lasher, Administrative
Services
Information
Title
Adopt Resolution #18-110 to Hire a Public Works Seasonal Worker and Temporary Interns
Purpose/Background:
The purpose of this case is to request authorization to hire a Public Works Seasonal Worker and Temporary Interns.
Annually the City employs Seasonal Public Works Maintenance Workers to perform work in the Parks, Streets, and
Utilities Divisions of Public Works and Interns to work in Administrative Services, Community Development,
Engineering, and Parks. More than ever, this year's recruiting efforts have been challenge due to competition from
other employers. Consquently, the process to hire temporary employees has taken longer and, in the case of the
Parks Intern, the previously hired Intern for this season resigned within the first week of employment, causing a gap
in coverage. With this gap in coverage and the lack of applicants for the Horticulturist Internship the Parks Division
has the required fuding and is in need of immediate coverage. To offset the coverage concerns, staff have selected
one seasonal candidate and three general -duty parks interns with staggered start dates. All candidates have passed
the pre -employment screenings and staff recommends hiring the candidates listed below.
Funding Source:
The funding required for this action is included in the approved 2018 budget.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends hiring Gunnar Ledin, effective on or near June 4, 2018 at $11.50 per hour as a returning Public
Works Seasonal Worker. Staff also recommends hiring Cecilia Schmidt, effective on or near May 30, 2018 at
$13.00 per hour; and Kiana Packer, effective on or near June 7, 2018 at $13.00 per hour; and Mitchell Koester,
effective on or near August 27, 2018 at $13.00 per hour, all as Parks Interns.
Action:
1) Motion to adopt resolution #18-110 to hire the following employees: Gunnar Ledin, effective on or near June 4,
2018 at $11.50 per hour as a returning Public Works Seasonal Worker; and hiring Cecilia Schmidt, effective on or
near May 30, 2018 at $13.00 per hour; and Kiana Packer, effective on or near June 7, 2018 at $13.00 per hour; and
Mitchell Koester, effective on or near August 27, 2018 at $13.00 per hour as Parks Interns.
Resolution 18-110
Attachments
Form Review
Inbox Reviewed By Date
Kurt Ulrich Kurt Ulrich 06/07/2018 03:10 PM
Form Started By: Colleen Lasher Started On: 06/04/2018 04:26 PM
Final Approval Date: 06/07/2018
