Background: <br /> <br />2005 STREET I~'IAINTENANCE PROGRAlVI <br />By: Stgven J} Jankowski, City Engineer <br /> <br />Attached to this case, under separate. cover is the Feasibility Study for the 2005- Street <br />Maintenance Programs. This yearts program's consists of eight individual projects addressing <br />the maintenance needs on 20.5 [ miles of City streets. Projects 05-01 through 05-05 which <br />covers 13.55 m/les of City streets, Will receive a sealcoating preceded by sealing of cracks <br />having widths which exceed one-quarter inch.. Projects 05-06 and 05-08 .which involve 6.96 <br />miles of street, wi 11 receive a one and one-half inch bituminous overlay of the existing <br />bituminous pavement: - <br /> <br />The City has conducted an armual street maintenance program since 1981. It has been the City's <br />policy to assess 50 % of the cost associated with these improvements. A complete.l/sting of the <br />City's policies concerning t..he, assessment practiCes are_ summarized in Appendix C. It should be <br />noted that Project 05-01 will not be an-asS~sment proj_ect since funds for the first sealcoating of <br />newly constructed ~t~'¢ets have been escrowed by the project developer for this purpose. In <br />recent years the initial step of this proces~ has been the presentation of the program to the Public <br />Works Committee. Table 6 of the report contains a listing of the schedule of project milestones <br />associated wi th this program. <br /> <br />Staff is open to any direction the Committee may have on the draft Feasibility Study. Staff <br />anticipates presenting the study to, City Council on February 8, 2005 and holding a public <br />hearing on the program on March 8, 2005. <br /> ,. <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />S taft recommends that the Committee recommend that the City Council accept the Feasibility <br />Study for the 2005 Street Maintenance program and set the date of March 8, 2005 for a public <br />hearing. <br /> <br />Action: <br /> <br />Motion to recommend that the City Coungil accept the Feasibility Study for the 2005 Street <br />Maintenance Program and set the date of MarCh 8, 2005 for a public hearing. <br /> <br />Reviewed by: <br />Director of Public Works/Fire Chief <br />Assistant Public Works DirectoffPrincipal Engineer <br />Street Maintenance Supervisor <br /> <br />PW: 01/18/05 <br /> <br /> <br />
