roundabouts is increasing nationwide and she would support this request because of the sightline <br /> issues in this area. <br /> Acting Mayor LeTourneau referenced the 8,700-traffic count in the report and asked if there is a <br /> future projection for traffic counts. <br /> City Engineer Westby stated he is unsure of the exact number but noted that the number used for <br /> the cost-benefit analysis will be updated by MnDOT prior to the submission of the application by <br /> Anoka County. He was given data from Community Development Director Gladhill which <br /> stated that there would be a projected traffic count of 12,800 in 2040. He stated that the action is <br /> approve a letter of support for funding application by Anoka County. He stated that any future <br /> funding or construction approvals would come back before the City Council. <br /> Patrick Surma, 161St and Armstrong, stated that he goes through the intersection four to six times <br /> per day. He stated that he has spoken with two Highway Patrol officers that had concern with <br /> the intersection. He stated that with the additional residential developments, the issues will only <br /> increase. <br /> Motion by Councilmember Johns, seconded by Councilmember Shryock, to Approve a Letter of <br /> Support for Anoka County's Highway Safety Improvement Program Grant Application for <br /> Construction of a Roundabout at the Intersection of CSAH 83/Armstrong Boulevard and Alpine <br /> Drive. <br /> Motion carried. Voting Yes: Acting Mayor LeTourneau, Councilmembers Johns, Shryock, and <br /> Riley. Voting No: Councilmember Kuzma. <br /> 7.03: Receive Update on Highway 47 Plan <br /> City Planner McGuire Brigl reviewed the staff report and provided an update on the Highway 47 <br /> Plan. <br /> Councilmember Riley stated that he attended the evening meeting and expressed appreciation to <br /> staff. He stated that this is a great process but asked why the plan would be adopted one year <br /> from now. <br /> City Planner McGuire Brigl replied that planning processes take a long time and noted that staff <br /> would like to ensure that there is enough time to receive resident input as the draft <br /> Comprehensive Plan process is starting to wrap up. He stated that staff will attempt to shorten <br /> that timeline and plan to show improvements along the way. <br /> Councilmember Johns commented that she also attended and appreciated the engaged <br /> participation of those that attended. She stated that she likes that staff will also provide an <br /> opportunity for those that were unable to attend the meetings. <br /> Acting Mayor LeTourneau stated that he appreciates the willingness and eagerness of the <br /> Council to gather that input from the community and appreciated the ability of staff to create <br /> City Council/August 6, 2018 <br /> Page 7 of 10 <br />
