What the city council wants fi'om the city staff: <br /> <br />· Openness and candor in communications. <br /> <br />Sharing of perspectives and concerns pertaining to issues <br />under consideration or being addressed by council and <br />staff. <br /> <br />Consistent and timely communications to the fullest eXtent <br />possible. <br /> <br />Demonstrating respect for the position and authority of <br />council. <br /> <br />Providing council an opportunity and the information <br />necessary to understand issues. <br /> <br />Political sensitivity, i.e., appreciate the political issues and <br />pressures council must deal with in its deliberations and <br />decision-making. <br /> <br />Being polite and respectful in all interactions between <br />council and staff. <br /> <br />2. What the management team wants and needs from the council: <br /> <br />Clear direction <br /> <br />· Support <br /> <br />· Respectful debate of.difficult issues. <br /> <br />Communications through the city adn'finistrator that involve <br />giving direction to city staff. (Communications requesting <br />information or status on issues can be made directly by <br />council members to staff members since such <br />communications do not involve an element of giving <br />direction to a staff member). <br /> <br />Trust; i.e., we will always be respectful of each other's <br />accountability and responsibilities, and trust that all persons <br />truly are trying to protect the interest and professionalism <br />of council and staff. <br /> <br />18 <br /> <br /> <br />
