Councilmember Hendriksen stated that one of his other concerns with relocating the conference <br />room is that if someone needs to use the conference room they are entirely in the private office <br />area, which would not be the case in its current location. He did feel that what was proposed was <br />an improvement. <br /> <br />Councilmember Anderson felt that moving the conference room in the middle would allow for <br />more expansion in community development and engineering. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen inquired if there was a reason they needed space on both sides of the <br />staircase. <br /> <br />Mr. Baxley replied that they do need to maintain the staircase opening, but the space surrounding <br />the staircase could be utilized. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen stated that if the conference table was moved back to its current <br />location then the entire area could be used for office space. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen inquired if it was a fact that the two main objections with utilizing the <br />existing lobby area was because power and heating was not valid. <br /> <br />Mr. Baxley replied that under the scenario that was presented that was correct. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen inquired if there was any reason why it would not be feasible to close <br />off the area south of the staircase. <br /> <br />Mr. Baxley replied that they need to maintain some circulation from administration over to <br />community development. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendriksen noted that if the conference room is used as office space instead it <br />would allow for that circulation. <br /> <br />Mr. Baxley replied that that would depend on the layout of the workspace. <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman stated that what was being proposed by the consultants was an <br />improvement. <br /> <br />Councilmember Anderson stated that the Council understands that staff is currently crowded in <br />their working conditions and in the next five years they are going to need more space at City Hall. <br />However, in the big picture the people in Ramsey are more interested in getting started with the <br />Town Center project than building a new City Hall. With what was being proposed she felt it <br />would allow for more workspace and not pressure them to construct a new City Hall at this time. <br /> <br />Councilmember Kurak stated that she did not personally believe that the building itself warranted <br />the investment. She thought they were looking for a temporary band-aid solution and now they <br />were looking at a renovation.
