<br />The public hearing closed at 7:04 p.m. <br /> <br />Commission Business <br /> <br /> <br />Chairperson Nixt called the regular meeting of the Planning Commission back to order at 7:04 <br />p.m. <br /> <br />Motion by Chairperson Nixt, seconded by Commissioner Sweet to recommend the City Council <br />adopt Findings of Fact favorable to the applicant relating to a request from Anoka-Hennepin <br />Technical College for an interim use permit to allow for an unimproved parking lot as the <br />principal use of a property until May 31, 2002. <br /> <br />Motion Carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Nixt, Commissioners Sweet, Brauer, Reeve, and <br />Watson. Voting No: None. Absent: Commissioners Johnson and Kociscak. <br /> <br />Motion by Chairperson Nixt, seconded by Commissioner Reeve to recommend City Council <br />approve Anoka-Hennepin Technical College Interim Use Permit to allow for an unimproved <br />parking lot as the principal use of a property, based on the findings of fact until May 31, 2002 <br /> <br />Motion Carried. Absent: Commissioners Johnson and Kociscak. <br /> <br />Case #2: Request for a Conditional Use Permit to Exceed Wall Sign Square Footage <br />Restrictions; Case of Crosstown Sign <br /> <br />Chairperson Nixt closed the regular portion of the Planning Commission meeting at 7:05 p.m. in <br />order to call the public hearing to order. <br /> <br />Public Hearing <br /> <br /> <br />Chairperson Nixt called the public hearing to order at 7:05 p.m. <br /> <br />Presentation <br /> <br /> <br />Community Development Assistant Wald explained that the City received an application from <br />Crosstown Sign for a conditional use permit to exceed wall sign square footage restrictions for <br />the Ramsey business Valvoline Express Care, located at 6745 State Highway #10. She explained <br />that in the commercial district, City Code restricts wall signs to a size equal to 15% of the <br />building front. Valvoline Express Care’s building front is 435 square feet in size and therefore <br />allowed 65 square feet of wall signage. Mr. Deal would like to install an awning on his building <br />that would extend across the front of the building and wrap around to a portion of the east and <br />west sides of the building. The entirety of the awning would consist of business and service <br />advertising with a color logo. The awning is 315 square feet in size; this interprets to a 250 <br />square foot overage in wall signs. Mr. Deal intends to remove all existing wall signs from the <br /> <br />Planning Commission/December 4, 2001 <br />Page 3 of 18 <br /> <br />
