~ ~ = CASE #

CONSIDER LIGHTiPOLE AND B~NER ARM SPECIFICATIONS
By: Brian E. Olson, Assistant Director ~f Public Works/Principal City Engineer

Background: ~. :

The Streetscape pian that Was subra~ttec does not include banners on the light poles
within the Ramsey Town Center but Sta~ feels that we need to plan for the future
enhancement of the streets~ape pian !to include the ability to install banner arms and
banners on Sunwo0d Drive ~0TM Armstrong Boulevard to Ramsey Boulevard.

The Master Developer has agreed :an~ the light poles have, been designed to
accommodate this request, 120nnexus has reCeived a request and the money for the initial
order of 100 light Poles and fixtures frOm. flie Master Developer and want City approval
of the design of these banners before-placing the order.

There is a 8-12 week delive~ time: for these fixtures and poles and Connexus would like
a decision soon so they can begin installing them as soon as possible this summer.

The poles are designed to a~cornmodate Wind loads fOr one 2 foot by 4 foot banner as
well as any street Signs that!may be necessary. Included in this case is a detail showing
the options that we have available ifor future banner installation under the current
proposal. It is difficult to ~ow ,exa~.t!y.W~ch configuration to choose until there is
further study of the content of the banners themselves, hoWever, the intent of this case is
to provide for flexibility for ~e future idesigr~ of the banners.
Connexus has concerns regarding the height of the banner arms from the sidewalk
elevation because of vandalism. Theydo not, think that the lower banner arms should be
any lower than 8.5 :feet.

Staff feels that there will be considerable difcussion on the design of the banners and is
recommending that there be!two inse6S (St..afl will have a display of the insert available
for the meeting) on the light!t~}oleS on SunwOOd Drive as well as one banner arm included
as hardware for each light p01e, Any a~dditiOnal hardware that is necessary for the banner
installation will be a responsibility of the City when banners are or~lered in the future.

Staff also recommends that the insertSibe located at 8.5 feet and 12.5 feet as shown on the
attached drawing to provide maximum flexibility for the future banner design.
