ACCEPT RESIGNATION/RETIREMENT OF POLICE INVESTIGATOR AND AUTHORIZE STAPP!TO BE¢~N~ThE RECRUITMENT PROCESS FoR A~D ~ A eXTROL OFFICER By: Heldi t~els°n,:Assistant City Administrator Background: · Mr. James W. Balabon began qtnpl0yme~t with the City of Ramsey as a Patrol Officer on June l, 1981. He was assigned ~o the Po~ition- 6f Investigator in 1995. On March 11, 2005, Mr. James Balabon ~ubmitted a letter of resignation from his position as Police Ingestigator gffeCtiye june 30, 2005. Staff is recommending that Mr. Balabon's resignation be accepted. Staff further recommends that the City Counciligrant authorization to begin the recruitment process to hire a Patrol Officer. The Police Department is also requesting authorization to hire with ratification occurring at a regular Council meeting ~ Soon as practicable after completing the recruitment and selection process. Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends that James Balabon's resignation be accepted. Staff further recommends that the City C:oUnc!l!grant authorization to begin the recruitment process to hire a patrol Offiaer~ :Staff is also asking Council to consider authorizing Staff to proceed w[~ hiring findtatification at a regular Council meeting following the completion of th~irecruitm~nt and selection process.
