Councilmember Hendriksen stated that the City does preventative maintenance on paved roads,
but the City chooses not do the same on dirt roads. The logical conclusion is that dirt roads need
maintenance as well so when the City does work that is equivalent to a sealcoat or an overlay
they should be assessing the property owners.

2) Sunwood Drive Update

Principal City Engineer Olson explained that they have begun the work for the extension of
Sunwood Drive from Sunfish Lake Boulevard to C.R. #116. He explained that in the Business
Park along Sunwood Drive between Ramsey Boulevard and C.R. #116 there are a number of
street lights, which are same as the subdivision lights. He inquired if the Committee had any
recommendation in regards to extending that lighting to the east towards Sunfish Lake Boulevard
until they get into the residential area. He requested that the Councilmembers view the area
before the next meeting and give their input. Mr. Olson also noted that as they started the
construction of the road they determined that there was a lot more peat then previously indicated
and as well there is peat along the west side of Sunfish Lake Boulevard. Because of that the
intersection will be shifted to the east somewhat.

Councilmember Zimmerman inquired if there will be additional expenses to the City because of
the additional peat.

Principal Engineer Olson replied that they were not sure yet, but they are trying to eliminate any
additional costs, which is the reason the intersection was being moved

ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Councilmember Hendriksen, seconded by Mayor Gamec, to adjourn the meeting.

Motion carried.

The regular meeting of the Public Works Committee adjourned at 8:18 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Nanci Libor
Recording Secretary
TimeSaver Off Site Secretarial

Dean Kapler
Director of Public Works/Fire Chief

Public Works Committee/April 16, 2002
