Mr. Riemer explained the City would be responsible to move the lights to the other side of the
street. .

Chairperson Zimmerman stated if the phone company moved them to the wrong side of the street
they should be billed.

OTHER

1) Foster Cemetery

Mayor Gamec reported he received a letter from the Anoka County Genealogical Society. They
would like to take over the maintenance and upkeep of Foster Cemetery. They are only asking
the City to have the fence around it and to have an access. He thinks it is an excellent idea.

Public Works Director Kapler Said Staff would contact them to make sure they are on the same
line as to what they would be getting into.

2) Happy Days

Mayor Gamec reported Happy Days has requested up to an additional $2,000 to finance a
bagpipe band for the parade in honor of September 11~h. The Fire Department will be the grand
marshals of the parade. They might not need the full amount, but they would need to confirm the
band this week.

Chairperson Zimmerman asked if this would exceed the budget.

Mayor Gamec responded this would be in addition to the $5,000 already allotted.

Councilmember Hendriksen stated he does not see anything wrong with spending a little money
on Happy Days. Sometimes they spend too much on things they do not need and not enough on
things that make them feel good as a community. Councilmember Hendriksen noted the Council
was talking about subsidizing to the tune of a quarter of a million dollars earlier, and now they
are discussing cutting down the Happy Days festival to $5,000. If it is imperative and they feel
strongly they should do it.

Consensus was to approve the additional $2,000 to Happy Days to finance the bagpipe band.

Director of Public Works Kapler stated he would contact the Happy Days representative.
ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Mayor Gamec, seconded by Councilmember Zimmerman, to adjourn the meeting.

Motion carried.

Public Works Committee/July 16, 2002
