FC CASE # 2.

AWARD BID FOR WARNING SIREN REPLACEMENT
By: Police Chief Jim Way

Back,round:

On l:cbruary 11, 2005, the City of Ramsey Police Department released requests for
proposals for the replacement of two (2) outdoor warning sirens. The City replaced six
(6) sirens in 2004.

Thc City reccivcd proposals from three (3) vendors: Vinco, Inc. $22,800, RT Electric
$22,470.20 and American Signal Corporation $25,900.

Al'tcr reviewing the bids and evaluating the sirens that the City currently uses, Staff feels
that keeping thc replacements the same as the sirens installed by American Signal in 2004
is in the best interest of the City. Keeping the same units will mean that we will not have
a mix of brands in the field. Maintenance is much easier if one vendor can provide
general service and warranty work to all units.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends that council authorize contracted replacement of the outdoor warning
sirctas bc awarded to American Signal Corporation, 4801 W. Woolworth Ave,
Milwaukee, WI 5321. 8.

Council Action:

Motitm by City Council to adopt Resolution 05-04-XXX authorizing the contracted
equipment replacement of two (2) outdoor warning sirens with American Signal
Corporation, per the terms and conditions o£the contract.

Reviewed by:

I%1 ice Chief
City Administrator
Finance Officer

FC: 04/12/05
