B RAU N <br />INTERTEC <br />The Science You Build On. <br />Braun Intertec Corporation <br />11001 Hampshire Avenue S <br />Minneapolis, MN 55438 <br />March 5, 2020 Project B2001583 <br />Joe Feriancek, PE <br />City of Ramsey <br />7550 Sunwood Drive NW <br />Ramsey, MN 55303 <br />Re: Summary Letter — Drain Tile Design Recommendations <br />20-01 Variolite Street Reconstruction <br />168th Avenue and 169th Lane <br />Ramsey, Minnesota <br />Dear Mr. Feriancek: <br />Phone: 952.995.2000 <br />Fax: 952.995.2020 <br />Web: braunintertec.com <br />This letter serves as a summary of drain tile design recommendations for a 200-foot section of Variolite <br />Street as part of the overall street reconstruction of Variolite Street, from Alpine Drive to 173rd Avenue. <br />Our Understanding of Project <br />The City of Ramsey (City) has requested the analysis and design recommendation of a drain tile system <br />for a 200-foot section of Variolite Street which has been displaying high groundwater conditions. <br />According to the RFP, the high groundwater condition is occurring approximately 700 feet north of the <br />Trott Brook and adjacent wetland. <br />The City completed a patch of the 200-foot section back in 2015, backfilling the road with 4 feet of select <br />granular before placing a standard pavement section on top. According to the City, it appears the <br />patched roadway is failing, and the City has determined that high groundwater conditions are <br />contributing to the pavement deterioration. <br />Background Information and Reference Documents <br />We reviewed the following information: <br />■ Previous geotechnical report prepared by Northern Technologies, LLC (NTI) and dated <br />October 11, 2019 (NTI Project No. 19.MSP09109.000). <br />
