Vice-Chairperson Kociscak inquired what impact it would have on Amcor if the Board were to <br />approve the variance contingent upon the City acquiring the equipment and assuming that the <br />equipment would not be received until December 2002. <br /> <br />Mr. Miller replied that they are anticipating starting construction in July and if the variance is <br />denied then they might have to consider building in another city. <br /> <br />Vice-Chairperson Kociscak inquired as to how long it would take for them to construct the <br />building. <br /> <br />Mr. Miler replied 5 ½ to 6 months. <br /> <br />Commissioner Watson inquired as to how much an aerial ladder truck might cost. <br /> <br />Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler replied approximately $500,000. <br /> <br />Vice-Chairperson Kociscak inquired as to what the likelihood of the City Council approving the <br />purchase. <br /> <br />Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler replied that it has been a part of the COuncil's plan <br />since 1998, but it is always eliminated. He also noted that he' had discussed financing options <br />with the City Administrator. <br /> <br />Motion by Board Member Wivoda, seconded by Board Member Sweet, to close the public <br />hearing. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Vice-Chairperson Kociscak, Board Members Wivoda, Sweet and <br />Watson. Voting No: None. <br /> <br />The public hearing closed at 7:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Board Business <br /> <br />Vice-Chairperson Kociscak called the Board of Adjustment meeting back to order at 7:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Commissioner Sweet stated that she did not think it was appropriate to expose the City's own <br />firemen to a risk that was not necessary. Them is no guarantee that the Council will include that <br />truck in their budget this year and a lot of time could lapse before one is purchased; leaving the <br />City with a large liability. The City could be sued by a person or the company since the City <br />permitted the building to be constructed. <br /> <br />Vice-Chairperson Kociscak inquired how large cities prevent themselves from being sued in <br />similar situations. <br /> <br />Board of Adjustment/May 1, 2001 <br /> Page $ of 7 <br /> <br /> <br />
