Case #12A: Alpine Park's Discovery Garden

Assistant public Works Director Olson reviewed that late in 2004 the Alpine Park Discover
Garden was approved for 2005 construction with a toil budget of $I 17,008 from the Park Trust
Fund, based upon the project estimate. He explained earlier this spring, several requests-for
quotes were issued for the specific elements that were identified. At this point, most costs are
known except irrigation, which is estimated to be about $12,000. Unfortunately, some of these
costs are considerably higher than were estimated. The total amount of $154,418 represents an
approximate 24 percent increase over the 2004 estimate, or $37,410 over the 2004 allocation by
Cit Council. However, there is $13,072 in "deducts". This leaves about $24,338 in funding
necessary to complete the Alpine Park Discover Garden. Staff is recommending this additional
amount be approved from Park Trust Fund monies, providing for completion of the project on or
about June 9, 2005.

Motion by Councilmember Cook, seconded by Councilmember Strommen, to approve $24,338
Park Trust Funds, to complete Alpine Park's Discovery Garden.

Motion carried.
