He explained that the City would purchase the materials
and then submit the invoices for reimbursement.

Councilmember Zimmerman inquired if the maximum amount was $20,000, should they being
doing more.

City Engineer Jankowski explained that the $11,000 amount is the Landscape Architects estimate
and that was what was submitted to MnDOT, but the City could consider expanding the plan.

Councilmember Zimmerman inquired if MnDOT would allow the City to plant flowers in the
median.

City Engineer Jankowski replied that he was not sure, but would require MnDOT approval.

Mayor Gamec inquired if the funds were strictly for the plantings.

City Engineer Jankowski replied yes, explaining that the City will need to provide the labor and
ongoing maintenance.

Mayor Gamec inquired as to when the wall would be constructed.

City Engineer Jankowski reviewed the status of the sound wall.

Motion by Mayor Gamec, seconded by Councilmember Kurak, to recommend that the City
Council adopt a resolution to enter into MnDOT Landscape Partnership Agreement No. 81470,
in an amount not to exceed $20,000.

Further discussion: Councilmember Hendriksen stated that in the discussion of plantings in the
median the City Engineer referred to the cost at being in the neighborhood of $600,000 and
stated that the fund would probably not go that high and yet it is indicated that the maximum
amount for the grant is $20,000. City Engineer Jankowski replied that he believes that it is
MnDOT's goal to promote beautification, but the scope was in the less than $50,000 amount
rather than half a million. He noted that he was not sure what the top limit of the grant was, but
would research that information. Councilmember Hendriksen inquired if it would be possible to
upscale the size of shrubs that are being used since there is $20,000 available. City Engineer
Jankowski replied that he would find that out. Councilmember Hendriksen requested that staff
also investigate the amount available rather than settling for $11,000.

Motion carried.
