Case #3: Update on Water Tower Projects

City Engineer Jankowski stated that now that the structural erection of the new water tower has
been completed staff wanted to update the Committee on the remaining work elements necessary
to make the new water tower functional, and also those elements necessary to repaint the existing
water tower. Water Tower No. 2 will receive two coatings of epoxy painting both inside and out.
The repainting is anticipated to commence within four to six weeks when temperature and
humidity conditions will allow. The cost of the painting included within the $1,455,000 lump
sum contract with PDM, Inc. (now CBI, Inc.), AEC Engineering will oversee the inspection of
the coating application. The structure, painting, and all interior wiring and electrical work is to
be completed under the contract with PDM, Inc. The column pedestal has been equipped with an
overhead door to accommodate vehicles and equipment storage. The area outside the tank
remaining to be finished with a paved driveway, site landscaping, and pipe connection between
the water tower and the distribution system located on Sunwood Drive. The Engineering
Department, using its new CAD system, will prepare the plans and specifications for this work.
Following the completion of Water Tower No. 2, Water Tower No. 1 will be repainted. The
actual work will occur in the fall when temperature and humidity conditions are favorable for
painting. In fall, the peak summer demand period has passed which also makes this a suitable
period for the work. It is however to the City's advantage to bid this work as soon as possible to
obtain the best pricing for the work. The City Engineering Department using the CAD system
has prepared plans. Mr. Jankowski reviewed the three-color scheme options and the cost
differences.

Consensus of the Public Works Committee was to recommend color scheme #1 for the
repainting of water tower #1.

City Engineer Jankowski explained that there are a couple of issues remaining around the water
tower site and requested authorization for staff to prepare the plans and specifications.

Consensus of the Committee was to direct staff to proceed with the plans and specifications.

COMMITTEE INPUT

1. Discussion on Waco Street NW

City Engineer Jankowski stated that staff will begin collecting data on the speed along Waco
Street.

Mayor Gamec noted that he is still receiving calls from residents in regards to the danger along
Waco Street N.W.

City Engineer Jankowski explained that staff would complete the studies and then bring them
back for Committee review and public comment.

2.
