AUTHORIZATION TO RECRUIT FIREFIGHTERS <br /> <br />By: Givonna Reed, Human Resources Manager <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />Approximately once annually the City conducts a recruitment process to hire additional <br />firefighters. In Ramsey, 40 firefighters are considered a full complement. A recruitment <br />process is initiated only when there are several vacancies within the department. <br /> <br />Currently there are five firefighter vacancies. Staff has begun the recruitment process for <br />additional firefighters by holding two informational sessions for individuals interested in <br />joining the Fire Department. The informational sessions were held Monday, May 9, 2005 <br />and Thursday May 12, 2005. <br /> <br />Thc purpose of this item is to ensure that the City Council is still comfortable with staff <br />initiating recruitment processes for firefighters when staff determines that there is a need <br />to recruit additional firefighters. As has always been the case, a resolution will be <br />brought to the City Council for approval prior to any new firefighters actually being <br />hired. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation <br /> <br />Authorize staff to begin the recruitment process for additional firefighters when the Fire <br />Chief determines that there are enough vacancies to warrant a recruitment process.
