Andover: 11.58 minutes, Anoka: 9.27 minutes; Elk River: 17:42 minutes Coul~cihnember Kurak inquired as to what the charge was for using neighboring cities eqtfipment. Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler replied that the City has a mutual aid agreement so no money is exchanged. City Engineer Olson stated that he has been part of the New Brighton Fire Department for seven years and since that time they have purchased an aerial ladder truck. He explained that it is often the ill'st track dispatched because the positioning of the truck is very important and it is very usefill in gaining access onto rooftops, including for residential developments. Councihnelnber Hendriksen stated that he did not think that anyone was challenging the fact that it would be beneficial to have an aerial ladder truck, but he personally is weighing if it is the way the City should spend $500,000. Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler replied that he does not take the discussion lightly. He does not view the purchase as a purchase today, but for the future. The truck would act as a fifll running engine capable of pumping the same amount of water. There have already been three requests to exceed the height restriction and there will be more to come. Counci Imember Kurak inquired as to what the life expectancy was on a aerial ladder truck. Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler replied the life expectancy would be approximately 25 years.
