Describe measures to minimize or avoid adverse <br />impacts. <br /> [] <br /> <br /> DNR Natural Heritage and Non-game Research Program CorresPOndence Reference No. ERDB 20050802 <br /> Fourteen occurrences are listed within a 1 mile radius of this site: 13 occurrences of Blanding's turtle (Emydoidea <br /> blandingii), a state-listed threatened species, and 1 occurrence of American Bittern (Botaurus lentiginosus). The <br /> project area is not in an area known to be of state-wide importance to Blanding's turtles or an area where greater <br /> protection go,' turtles is desired. A flyer on Blanding's turtles provided by the DNR will be distributed to ali project <br /> contractors. Turtles in imminent danger will be moved, by hand, out of harm's way. Otherwise, Blanding's turtles <br /> and their nests will be left undisturbed. Silt fencing will be put up around the construction site to keep turtles out, <br /> and silt fence will be removed after the area has been revegetate& Care will be taken to fill any trenches dug to <br /> place utilities, as trenches can trap turtles. Fertilizer and pesticides will be minimized and sediment will'be <br /> prevented from entehng nearby streams and wetlands. Vegetation management in infi'equently mowed areas - such <br /> as ditches, along utility access roads, and under power lines - should be done mechanically (chemicals should not <br /> be used). Work should occur fall through spring (after October 1~t and before June <br /> <br />Will the project involve the physical or hydrologic alteration, such as dredging, filling, <br />stream diversion, oufall structure, diking, and impoundment, of any suRace waters such <br />as a lake, pond, wetland, stream or drainage ditch? <br />If yes, identify water resource affected and give the DNR Protected Waters Inventow <br />number(s) if the water resources affected are on the PWI.
