CASE #7

Consider Placement of Pedestrian Crossing Sign at Potassium Street
and Sunwood Drive

Background:

Thc City has a sidewalk system that is not universal to all streets. In fact, along Sunwood
Drivc between Nowthen Boulevard and Sunfish Lake Boulevard there is only a single
location, the intersection with Potassium Street, where the sidewalk system requires the
crossing of Sunwood Drive to continue travel along the sidewalk/trail system. Staff
believes this unique feature warrants the posting of a Pedestrian Crossing sign to warn
motorists that pedestrians crossing at this location are a more likely event than at other
poi nts along this segment of roadway. State law requires that motorists yield to pedestrians
in marked crosswalks and this posting should provide an additional degree of protection to
the trail system users. The cost associated with this signage is approximately $800, which
would come from the public works signs account.

Motion to recommend to City Council that a Pedestrian Crossing sign be posted at the
intersection of Potassium Street and Sunwood Drive.

Action:

Rati fy thc recommendation of the Public Works Committee.

CASE #8 Consider Strom Sewer Utility Improvement Projects

It was determined to discuss this case at the next Committee meeting due to time
constraints.

Action:

None requircd.

COMMITTEE/STAFF INPUT

Reviewed by:
Assistant Public Works Director/Principal City Engineer
City Engineer

CC: 06/14/05
