Roberta Mathison, 14970 Waco Street NW, Ramsey, was present regarding the safety concern
along Waco Street.

Belinda, Waco Street, Ramsey, was present regarding the safety concern along Waco Street.

Jenny Durkis, Waco Street, Ramsey, was present regarding the safety concern along Waco
Street.

Joe Wartland, Waco Street, Ramsey, was present regarding the safety concern along Waco
Street.

Mayor Gamec stated that staff has been conducting traffic counts on the street and those number
were discussed during the last Public Works Committee meeting.

Councilmember Zimmerman stated that as the Council promised in February, they have been
completing the traffic counts and did have some action during the last Public Works meeting.
The Public Works Committee will continue to have discussions on the issue. He invited anyone
interested to attend the next Public Works Committee meeting on June 19th.

Mayor Gamec requested that the traffic reports that have currently been completed be made
available to the residents.

A resident stated that he does not think the speed trailer gives an accurate reading because people
slow down when they see them. He requested that staff actually come out and witness how fast
traffic goes down Waco Street.

Mayor Gamec noted that the speed trailer did document speeds of up to 55mph.

A resident stated that the bike path at 150th Avenue comes down a hill and onto Waco Street and
he has personally witnessed cars having to hit their brakes to avoid hitting a kid.

Councilmember Zimmerman stated that one of the options the Council has discussed was placing
a stop sign by the path.

A resident stated that one of their concerns is that ever since Waco Street was resurfaced no lines
were repainted back on the road. They have seen people passing cars going the speed limit along
Waco Street. The residents requested that the street be repainted in the near future and that a
crosswalk get painted by the bike path to identify the trail.

A resident stated that it takes a community to raise a child and currently there are 23 children that
wait for the school bus at 149th Avenue and Waco Street. Some children were removed from the
corner because of safety concerns. She personally watched as her child was almost hit. She
stated that a three-way stop sign is needed at that intersection to keep the children safe. The City
needs to make Waco Street unpopular for people to use by installing stop signs or speed bumps.

City Council/May 22, 2001
~ Page3 of 23
