Councilmember Kurak inquired as to where the City gets the funds to move forward with the
project.

City Administrator Norman replied that the direction staff would be looking for is to direct the
consultant to pursue the options of renovation/expansion or a new city hall or continue on with
the "band-aid" options.

Councilmember Kurak expressed concern about the people working in the existing building
because the building is currently in the need of maintenance and inquired as to how they are
going to address those issues while they are preparing plans for the future.

City Administrator Norman suggested having the consultants consider some short-term "band-
aid" options that would get them through the next three to five years.

Mayor Gamec stated that he would prefer that nobody be placed downstairs.

Consensus of the Council was to direct the consultants to move forward with the
expansion/renovation option and a new City Hall option.

Councilmember Anderson inquired if there were any workable portables they could use.

Mr. Boddinger replied that renovation of the existing lobby area would be cheaper than operating
out of a portable.

Councihnember Anderson stated that if they were to build a new City Hall it would make sense
to place it in the Town Center location.

Consensus of the Council was to direct the consultants to consider minor "band-aid" options.

Mayor Gamec suggested that any expansion or new City Hall should be planned to accommodate
future expansion. In other words there should be a master plan for the building. He also stated
that he liked the concept of locating the City Hall in the Town Center area, but the concern is the
location of fire station.

ADJOURNMENT

The work session of the City Council adjourned at 8:05 p.m.

Respectfully submitt~ ,

Nanci Libor
Recording Secretary
TimeSaver Off Site Secretarial, Inc.

inistrator

City Council/September 18, 2001
