Council Update <br />Ward 1 Special Election Update. February 9 Ward 1 Special Election: Ryan Heineman won the <br />election with 196 votes compared to Jane Covart who had 114 votes. Ward 1 polling locations <br />were open for voting from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm. Voter turnout came in at 7.4%. The Canvassing <br />Board will meet on Tuesday, February 16, at 5:30 pm to canvass the votes. If all goes as expected, <br />Councilmember Elect Heineman can be certified on February 24 and will be seated at the dais for <br />the March 9 meeting. <br />City Achieves Certificate for Excellence in Financial Reporting - On Monday, February 8, <br />2021, the city received notice from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) that it <br />has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. This is <br />the 26th consecutive year that the city has achieved this award. Finance staff is currently preparing <br />for the preparation of the 2020 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) and will be <br />asking for submittal for the 2020 Certificate of Achievement in Financial Reporting when the <br />CAFR is presented to the City Council in June. <br />Sunwood Drive Closed Tuesday, February 16 - Sunwood Drive, between Sapphire and Zeolite <br />Streets, will be closed for snow removal on Tuesday, Feb. 16 from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Traffic <br />will be diverted to Veterans Drive as the alternative route. <br />2021 State of the City Address — Tune in for Mayor Kuzma's 2021 State of the City Address on <br />Tuesday, February 23, at 7:00 pm. In his presentation, Mayor Kuzma will provide a review of <br />City operations, updates and achievements from 2020, as well as a look ahead at what the City of <br />Ramsey is working on in 2021. <br />Warming Houses Closed. Warming houses at Ramsey Elementary and Central Park will be <br />closed effective immediately due to sub -zero temperatures and wind chills hitting -30 to -40 below <br />0 at times over the weekend. Warming houses will reopen on Tuesday, February 16. <br />Parks and Recreation Events and Updates: <br />• Snowshoeing in the Parks <br />o Last week's Snowshoeing in the park has been rescheduled for February 27 and still <br />has some spaces available. <br />o The March session still has some openings, registration is required for both as space <br />is limited. <br />• Monarch Butterfly Series <br />o The City of Ramsey is launching a new event series with the Monarch Joint <br />Venture! The first session begins with a foundational background on monarch <br />butterflies, the second session will provide starter plants and information to begin <br />your very own monarch pollinator garden, and the third session will teach you how <br />to get involved in citizen science projects. If there is community interest, a fourth <br />session may be added to assist in tagging monarch butterflies to track their <br />migration to Central America. <br />
