CASE #

CONSIDER T.H. #47 PEDESTRIAN UNDERPASS DESIGN
By: Brian E. Oison, Assistant Director of Public Works / Principal City Engineer

Background:

Last Tuesday the City Council authorized Staff to prepare plans and specifications for the
construction of a pedestrian underpass under Trunk Highway 47 in the vicinity of
Marigold Ponds subdivision. Attached to the case is the proposal that was delivered to the
meeting last Tuesday from Hakanson Anderson outlining the proposed costs associated
with this project as well as the projected schedule.

This week Staff is asking to authorize the advertisement for bids for the project as it is
otlr intention to complete the construction of the underpass before Labor Day weekend
since MnDOT is planning on reopening the highway before that weekend.

Thc estimated cost of this project is $390,000 and includes the engineering, design and a
5% construction contingency. The costs associated with thisproject are expected to be
financed by a combination of park and trail dedication money from Marigold Ponds
(-$270,000) and the Park Fund ($120,000). There are sufficient funds in the Park District
to pay for this improvement.

Recommendation:

StaW recommends authorizing the advertisement for bids for Improvement Project 05-xx,
Pedestrian Underpass of TH47. Staffwill have the plans available at City Hall and will
bring a set of plans and specifications to the meeting on Tuesday night.

Council Action:

Motion to approve plans and specifications and authorize advertisement for bids.

Reviewed by:
Public Works Director/Fire Chief
Assistant Public Works Director
Parks/Utilities Supervisor
Finance Officer

CC: 06/28/05

-387-
