FC CASE # <br /> <br />AUTHORIZE CONTRACT FOR REPAIRS TO FIRE STATION No. 1 <br /> By: Dean Kapler, Fire Chief <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />On February 21,2005 Fire Station #1 sustained damage from a Firefighters personal vehicle <br />while responding to an incident. Repairs were delayed until the regular construction season to <br />avoid cold weather charges. <br /> <br />Staff is recommending to enter into a contract with the S&P Construction of St. Paul, Inc. who <br />arc general contractors. The bidding process produced a base contract cost of $29,758.75. This <br />amount includes repair of all damage, inside and out. <br /> <br />Staff is also recommending that the main front door be replaced during this process. The current <br />door can not be locked from the inside and still allow exiting without manually unlocking and re- <br />locking the door. A new door equipped with a panic bar will allow locking and also exiting <br />without mannal "unlocking". The cost of this additional work including installation is $8119 if <br />done in conjunction with the rest of the repairs. <br /> <br />Stal'f is worki~g with the LMCIT to recover the costs of repairs from the Firefighters auto <br />iriSH r,[nl ce. <br /> <br />Funding: <br /> <br />Staff recommends funding for the repairs to be taken from the cities insurance fund and the <br />replacement of the main door to be taken from the equipment replacement fund. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation: <br /> <br />Enter into a contract with S&P Construction of St. Paul, Inc. in the amount of $37,877. <br /> <br />Finance Committee Action: <br /> <br />Recommend .adoption of Resolution No. 05-XX to AuthoriZe Contract with 'S & P Construction <br />of St. Paul, Inc. for Repairs to Fire Station No. 1~. <br /> <br />Conncii Action: <br /> <br />Adopt of Resolution No. 05-XX to Authorize Contract with S & P Construction of St. Paul, Inc. <br />for Repairs to Fire Station No. 1. <br /> <br />Reviewed By: <br />Asst.
