Sec. 10-58. - Tags. All dogs in public spaces shall have an identification tag with owner or veterinarian contact information affixed to the dog collar. In lieu of a physical tag, a microchip embedded in the dog with the same information is sufficient for identification. The license shall be in the form of an identification tag and shall be affixed by the owner to a collar to be worn by the dog. In case a tag is lost or destroyed, a duplicate will be issued by the city administrator upon presentation of a receipt showing payment of the license fee for the current period and a payment as established by ordinance. Dog tags shall not be transferable from one dog to another and no refunds shall be made on any dog license fee because of death of the dog or the owners leaving the city prior to expiration of the license period. Sec. 10-65.1. - Dangerous dog registration. (a) Requirement. No person may own a dangerous dog in this state unless the dog is registered as provided in this section. (b) Registration. An animal control authority shall issue a certificate of registration to the owner of a dangerous dog if the owner presents sufficient evidence that: (1) A proper enclosure exists for the dangerous dog and a posting on the premises with a clearly visible warning sign that there is a dangerous dog on the property, including a warning symbol to inform children; (2) A surety bond issued by a surety company authorized to conduct business in this state in a form acceptable to the animal control authority in the sum of at least $300,000.00, payable to any person injured by the dangerous dog, or a policy of public liability insurance issued by an insurance company authorized to conduct business in this state in the amount of at least $300,000.00, insuring the owner for any personal injuries inflicted by the dangerous dog; SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE This Ordinance becomes effective 30 days after its passage and publication, subject to City Charter section 5.04.
